Calling all Pilgrims! The Mayflower is ready to set sail! The children have painted it (a big thank you to Mrs. Ryan for braving the painting mess to assist), and added the supplies from their suitcases. They even wanted to make a steering wheel and an anchor to go with it to add to the authenticity. We’ll sail to our feast on Monday and hopefully it will be a smooth sail!
Our week was all about Thanksgiving –Pilgrims, Native Americans, and turkeys. In math we sorted turkeys according to size, counted feathers, and patterned Indian headbands. We read about the first Thanksgiving and talked about thankfulness. Our story about a pet turkey led to lots of ideas about what the children would do with their own pet turkey. Be sure to check out their thoughts on the bulletin board if you have not yet done so.
We completed letterbook O and began a new book with a puzzle which made a big G to announce that our next letterbook is G. We’re starting to do two pages a day for some of the lessons now. The children are all grasping the material very well and are so excited to take the books home when they finish them. It’s great to see.
The upcoming week is a short one as we finish up our Thanksgiving unit. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your families.
