Michele Wild: Teacher
I joined the teaching staff at Open Door Nursery School in 2012 and I am happy to be teaching the two-year-old class. I love working with this age group.
Before coming to Open Door I taught at Corner House Nursery School for 17 years. My other teaching experiences include preschool classes at the Heritage Education Program and a primary class at St. Joseph’s School for Exceptional Children. In addition, I did some substitute teaching for Heritage and Corner House during the years I stayed home raising my children.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from St. Bonaventure University and my Master’s degree in Special Education from Ohio University. I live in Cheektowaga with my husband David, and I have three grown sons.
Melinda Foran-Bibko: Teacher
Over my many years here at Open Door, I have taught in most of the classrooms as an aide and then as a teacher. It is where all of my children attended and when given the chance to teach back in 1996, I jumped at the chance!
My teaching certification is in elementary education with a concentration in early childhood education. Upon graduation, I taught for several years as a first and second grade teacher. I love working with the very youngest children as they discover their own abilities, learn new concepts and gain independence. Their enthusiasm and excitement about learning is magical. As a former parent of Open Door students and now as a teacher, there is much that is so special about this school.
Roberta Sendker: Aide
I began working at Open Door in 1996 as an aide in the 3-year-old room. It is truly a blessing to spend time with Open Door’s children!
I grew up in Williamsville and moved away temporarily when I was first married. After living in Philadelphia while my husband attended graduate school, we returned home. When my husband and I started our family, my Office Administration degree was put on the back burner and I chose to stay home full-time with our children.
My husband, Matt, and I have two grown children—a son and daughter—who both got their start at Open Door! As empty nesters, Matt and I make our home in the Village of Williamsville. In addition to my job at Open Door, I am also on staff with the music ministry at Harris Hill United Methodist Church.
Kate Overton: Aide
In my years working as a teacher, Open Door has become my first experience working with young children. I became a part of Open Door first as a parent, then a board member and now as an aide in the Three Year Old classroom. I love working in an environment that allows children to learn but most importantly have fun! I attended the University at Buffalo for my bachelors and masters degree in Education, then again for an advanced certification in Literacy.
I live in Williamsville with my husband and two boys, both of which whom have attended Open Door. We have the privileged of living in an area with so much to offer so typically we are off on adventures visiting the Buffalo Science Museum, Buffalo Zoo or exploring some place new. We also enjoy spending time with family. Being a part of Open Door is such a special experience and I hope to be here for years to come.
Debora Cullen: Teacher
Hi! I’m Deb Cullen and I love teaching at Open Door! I have had the privilege of teaching four-year-olds here since 2006. I first came to Open Door looking for the right school for my two children. As soon as I walked in the door, I knew this was it. There is a bright, loving, happy feeling in the air, and it just keeps getting better!
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from SUNY College at Buffalo, and a Master’s degree in elementary education from SUNY Brockport. My previous experience includes teaching second grade in the Rochester area, and several substitute teaching positions.
My husband, Peter and I, our two kids and two dogs live in Snyder. I am also the Christian Education director for Amherst Community church. Keeping up with both kids takes most of my time, but once in awhile I get a chance to cross stitch, read a book, or take a long walk in the woods.
Mary Pardo: Aide
I have been an Aide in the 4-year-old program at Open Door Nursery School since 2009. I have a BS in Business Administration from SUNY Fredonia. I worked in the Accounting and Administration field for 14 years before leaving to be a stay-at-home mom. I consider myself so fortunate to be part of the Open Door family where I am blessed to see all of the children’s smiling faces each day!
I was born and raised in Amherst, where my husband and I now reside with our children, Daniel and Bridget. Both of our children attended Open Door and loved every minute of it!
Gail Sexton: Teacher
It is my great joy and pleasure to teach the Four/Five-Year-Old Kindergarten Readiness Class. I grew up in Tonawanda and graduated from Buffalo State College in the 1970’s, majoring in Elementary Education. For many years, I lived in Connecticut where I taught in several preschool programs. I returned to Western New York in 2006 and began working at Open Door at that time.
My husband and I have two grown sons, two daughters-in-law, and two grandchildren. When I’m not busy visiting them, I enjoy quilting, gardening, and reading. I look forward to a successful year at Open Door.
Amy Nelson: Aide
I have been a teacher’s aide at Open Door Nursery School since 2002. I have worked with children in the three, four, and kindergarten readiness classes.
Prior to coming to Open Door, I spent eight years as an aide working with special education students in the Williamsville School District. I have a degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, and worked in an Immunoflourescent Laboratory for seven years before starting my family.
My husband and I have a son living in Richmond, Virginia and a daughter living in Syracuse, New York. I look forward to spending many more years with the wonderful children of Open Door Nursery School as they learn and grow.
Maria McCormack: Aide
I work as an aide for the 2 year-old class and also for the 3 year old literacy class on Friday mornings. I feel blessed to be working in such a caring and loving environment.
I have my Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and my Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Buffalo. Before coming to Open Door, I worked in the Early Childhood program at Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center for 12 years.
My husband Robert and I live in East Amherst with our three children Maddy, Erin and Lily, who keep us very busy and bring us a lot of joy. I love to do yoga, I take walks every chance I get, and reading a good book are three of my favorite things to do.
Kathy Hannon: Aide
